Setting up a Product
A product is what a reader buys: the book, the formats it comes in, and their prices. You set it up once in your BookFunnel dashboard, and every way of selling uses it.
What a product holds
- A name and a pen name. The pen name is who the book is by. With several pen names, each has its own settings and its own sales.
- A SKU. A short name for the product, made of lowercase
letters, numbers and hyphens. One is suggested from the name:
Alice in Wonderland becomes
alice-in-wonderland. - Formats (variants). One for each thing you sell: the ebook, the audiobook, a paperback, a bundle. Each has its own price in each currency you sell in, and one is the default, chosen first when a reader arrives.
- Covers and a description, which the reader sees on every way of selling. A format can have several images; they show as a carousel.
- A seller note (optional), shown to the reader in the checkout before they pay. Use it for what they must know first: who reads the audiobook, or how long a paperback takes to post.
What BookFunnel delivers, and what you do
A format that includes your BookFunnel books is delivered by BookFunnel, and carries the "Delivered by BookFunnel" mark. One that includes none, such as a signed paperback or a mug, is yours to post. See Processing Physical Product Orders.
Offers
You can offer something more at the checkout, such as the audiobook to a reader buying the ebook, or the bundle in place of a single format. A reader sees the offer before paying and can decline it.
Bundles and offers together. When you sell a bundle and set up an offer that moves a reader into it, the move applies to whatever they have already chosen. A reader who has put both single formats in their basket is switched to the bundle and pays the bundle price — less than the two apart — so that particular sale earns you less than it would have.
That trade is deliberate. The bet is that more readers take the bundle than you lose on the few who would have bought both singles anyway. It also answers “why did nobody tell me there was a bundle?” — a question that usually arrives as a refund request. If you would rather not make that trade, price the bundle at the sum of its parts, or do not set up the switch.
Where your books can be sold
In Settings, Allowed Websites for Sales lists the websites that may sell your books with the widget. With none listed, any site can. BookFunnel's own pages (your landing pages, your storepage and your direct checkout links) can always sell your books, whatever the list says.
Then choose how to sell it
A finished product can be sold in any of the four ways, all at once if you like. Its direct checkout links appear in your Products list once it is saved.
